A new Crunchyroll hub for the PlayStation 5 home screen is reportedly planned for around Spring 2027. It is intended to help players discover anime and anime-inspired games and access the Crunchyroll app—not to replace the console’s entire interface. The report does not say the hub is available now or requires a specific system-software download.
What the planned PS5 Crunchyroll hub is
In an October 8, 2026 report, PlayStation LifeStyle said Sony Interactive Entertainment had announced a dedicated Crunchyroll experience on the PS5 home screen, with a rollout planned for around Spring 2027. The hub is described as a place to find anime and anime-inspired games and access the Crunchyroll app.
The outlet attributed the announcement to a Sony press release and quoted it describing a way to bring anime and gaming communities closer together. The primary release was not independently available in the sources reviewed, so the announcement details and wording should be understood as reported by PlayStation LifeStyle, rather than independently confirmed here.

Spring 2027 is an approximate window, not a launch date. The report does not specify a country-by-country rollout, which PS5 owners will get the feature first, whether a Crunchyroll membership is needed, or exactly how the hub will look and work.

- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Those details matter: a planned announcement does not establish that every console will receive the feature at once, or that all app content will be available without a subscription. Sony’s general PS5 system-software update guidance explains how to keep a console’s software current, but it does not confirm the hub’s availability or say that a particular firmware download will add it.
How this differs from the earlier PS5 interface redesign
This reported Crunchyroll hub is separate from an earlier interface change covered by PlayStation LifeStyle. On April 9, 2026, the outlet reported that selected users saw new home-screen tabs for PlayStation Store, PS Plus, Games, Library, and Media. That change was described as a limited server-side rollout, not a download available to everyone.

A later report said those interface changes had been reverted the following month. PlayStation LifeStyle reported the reversal on June 4, 2026; this is press reporting, not an official Sony status statement. The October Crunchyroll story said there had been no later development reported on that redesign. The two stories concern different things: category tabs in the earlier test versus a planned, service-specific anime hub.

No current installation step is established by the October report. It describes a future home-screen service hub, not a named firmware release or an instruction to download an update. Keep the PS5’s system software current through the console’s usual settings, but do not expect that alone to make a feature available ahead of its rollout.
