ZMouse review
A focused open-source utility for remapping individual mice and filtering scroll input.

ZMouse is an open-source macOS utility for remapping mouse buttons and device-generated keystrokes on a per-device basis. It is aimed at solo Mac users who need different behavior from individual mice, dongles, Bluetooth devices, or split-device identities. The native menu-bar application includes a GUI editor, while command-line modes support applying mappings, listing connected mice, and probing input events. Supported actions include sending keystrokes, assigning another mouse button, or disabling a button entirely.
Its strongest area is hardware-specific control. Mappings can be keyed by USB vendor and product ID, and multiple identities can be grouped when one physical setup appears through different connection methods. ZMouse also handles MMO-style keystroke buttons and includes scroll-wheel jitter filtering plus weak scroll-tick boosting. This makes it more targeted than a general keyboard-and-mouse suite for users whose main concern is device-level remapping or inconsistent scroll input.
ZMouse keeps its scope narrow. It runs only on macOS as a desktop utility, requires Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions, and requires Rust for building. The project is described as a personal project that works on the author's hardware and may have rough edges, so buyers seeking a broader device-management suite should look elsewhere. It is also not positioned for macros, profiles, DPI controls, or polling controls. Choose ZMouse when open-source, per-device mouse mappings and both GUI and CLI operation matter; avoid it when cross-platform support or deeper gaming peripheral configuration is the priority.
