Our verdict on ZModManager
ZModManager is an open-source Windows desktop application for managing DLL mods in Unity games that use Mono or IL2CPP runtimes. It is aimed at players who want separate configurations for different games, clearer control over which mods launch, and framework installation within one manager. Profiles can include per-game mod lists, with enable and disable controls, JSON export and import, and system-tray operation.
Its strongest fit is the Unity modding ecosystem around MelonLoader, BepInEx 6, and ZModBootstrap. ZModManager can install those supported frameworks with one click, detect whether a game uses Mono or IL2CPP, and apply the corresponding deployment path. Mono games can use runtime DLL injection, while IL2CPP mods can be deployed through supported frameworks. Compatibility scanning and warnings add a useful check before launch, and incompatible mods can be disabled automatically.
The product is deliberately focused rather than a broad mod-source marketplace. Mod access uses manual importing, and the workflow does not provide an automatic mod-update function, so maintaining a collection still requires user involvement. Its Windows-only support also limits platform fit. Choose ZModManager if your games rely on the supported Unity frameworks and you value profile management, compatibility checks, and framework setup in an open-source tool. Consider another manager if you need broader game or platform coverage, integrated mod discovery, or automated mod updates.
