Zipware is a freeware archive utility for Microsoft Windows, aimed at people who need to create, extract, convert, protect, or verify compressed files without a subscription or account. It creates ZIP, 7-Zip, and self-extracting EXE archives, while opening formats that include ZIPX, 7Z, RAR, RAR5, ISO, VHD, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, XZ, DEB, DMG, RPM, and XPI. Personal and commercial use are covered by the Freeware plan, which requires no license key, activation, registration, subscription, login, or email address.
Its strongest fit is Windows-centric file handling. Windows Explorer context-menu integration and drag-and-drop support keep common archive actions close to the files being managed, while VirusTotal integration adds an external checking option within the product’s ecosystem. Zipware can also convert supported archives to ZIP, 7Z, or EXE, create split or multi-volume archives, and calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 checksums. These capabilities make it suitable for routine distribution, storage, verification, and compatibility work on Windows systems.
Security-related controls are practical for a free utility: AES-256 password-protected archives and a password manager are included, with the latter storing passwords and confidential information. The main trade-off is platform and release scope. Zipware is designed for Windows, and the latest listed release is version 1.6, released in October 2018; a January 2024 update says the website and software will continue to be supported. Choose it if you want a no-cost Windows archiver with broad extraction support, checksums, encryption, and Explorer integration. Choose an alternative if you need cross-platform availability, a command-line workflow, or archive-repair tooling.
