Zen Browser is a free, open-source desktop web browser built on Firefox and using the Gecko engine. It is aimed at people who organize browsing around projects and want privacy controls alongside a more structured tab layout. Workspaces separate tabs by project, while vertical tabs, Compact Mode, Glance previews, Split View, and picture-in-picture support different ways to manage active research, reference material, and media. Zen is officially available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Its main strength is the depth of its organization features. Workspaces provide a project-oriented foundation, and vertical tabs can make larger tab collections easier to scan. Glance previews let users view linked websites without leaving the current page, while Split View displays tabs side by side. Compact Mode hides the tab bar when more screen space is useful. These features give Zen a clear focus beyond basic web access: it is designed for users who want their browser layout to reflect how they separate tasks and projects.

Privacy and ecosystem fit are also central. Tracking protection includes Standard, Strict, and Custom levels, and Firefox Sync can synchronize bookmarks, history, passwords, add-ons, and other browser data through a Mozilla Account. Support for Mozilla Add-ons extends the browser beyond its built-in features. Zen is currently distributed as a beta product, and its platform coverage remains limited to desktop operating systems; Android and iOS versions are not currently available. Choose Zen if open-source software, project-based tab organization, and Firefox-compatible extensions matter more than mobile access. Users who need a browser across desktop and mobile should choose an alternative.
