YourKit Java Profiler is a desktop application and JVM agent for analyzing Java applications and servers locally or remotely. It is aimed at developers and teams investigating CPU usage, memory behavior, object allocations, thread activity, deadlocks, database queries, HTTP requests, and broader application performance. Windows, macOS, and Linux are supported, with Java profiling available through both sampling and tracing-oriented modes.
The profiler’s depth is its main strength. CPU sampling, tracing, and call counting are paired with memory snapshots, heap analysis, object allocation profiling, flame graphs, hotspot views, thread stacks, deadlock analysis, frozen-thread analysis, performance inspections, and Java Flight Recorder profiling. SQL query and HTTP request profiling extend the investigation beyond individual methods. Remote profiling over SSH, command-line profiling, export options, and Java and HTTP APIs also support repeatable analysis and automation.
Platform fit is practical for Java development teams. IDE plugins are available for Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, and NetBeans, while listed integrations include MongoDB, Cassandra, and HBase. The vendor’s pricing page shows a 15-day free trial and a starting price of $99 per seat per year. Listed single-seat plans range from $449 to $579 annually for Basic or Advanced support, while perpetual licenses range from $549 to $713 per seat. Five-seat annual plans range from $1,259 to $1,639, and five-seat perpetual plans range from $1,539 to $1,999; listed plans include one year of support and upgrades. Choose it when detailed Java diagnostics and commercial support justify paid licensing. Teams seeking a general-purpose, multi-language, or broadly free profiler should look elsewhere.
