Yandex Container Registry is a managed service for storing and distributing Docker images in Yandex Cloud data centers. It suits teams running workloads on Yandex Managed Service for Kubernetes, Compute Cloud virtual machines, Serverless Containers, or GitLab-based CI/CD workflows. Access is available through the Yandex Cloud console, CLI, API, and Docker CLI, while Docker Registry HTTP API V2 compatibility supports established registry workflows.

Pricing is usage-based rather than organized around fixed paid plans. Yandex Cloud charges for storage, outgoing traffic, and vulnerability scans, with rates varying by region and contracting legal entity. That structure can fit teams that prefer costs tied to consumption, but it requires estimating registry storage, image transfers, and scan activity. There is no free plan, so it is better suited to workloads with an established cloud budget than to small projects seeking a no-cost registry.

Its strongest operational features are image scanning against CVE databases, multiple scan triggers, repository-level lifecycle policies, HTTPS image transfer, access control, and automatic replication across geographically distributed availability zones. Lifecycle policies can automatically delete images, while integrations with Kubernetes, Compute Cloud, Serverless Containers, and GitLab keep the registry aligned with a Yandex Cloud delivery stack. A single Docker image layer can be up to 150 GB, and image scanning has a separate 4 GB limit. Choose Yandex Container Registry when regional Yandex Cloud integration and registry controls matter; consider another registry when a free tier or different platform ecosystem is the priority.
