XipOS is XipLink’s WAN optimization and acceleration software for constrained wireless, satellite, cellular, terrestrial, and hybrid networks. It is designed for satellite operators, telecommunications providers, maritime networks, cellular backhaul, government and defense, and other distributed-network environments. The software runs as a virtual network function or integrates into XipLink appliances, with support for major VM hypervisors.

Its standout strength is the breadth of protocol-aware optimization in one product. XipOS combines SCPS-TP TCP acceleration with header and payload compression, byte caching, stream compression, application-aware QoS, traffic shaping, link balancing, bonding, and traffic steering. It also supports transparent acceleration for GTP, GRE, VLAN, MPLS, and XLT tunnels. For encrypted traffic, IPsec encryption and decrypt-optimize-encrypt processing extend optimization across protected connections.

Operationally, XipOS fits environments that need centralized control across distributed links and network types. Management is available through a GUI, XipLink Management System, SNMP, and Netconf, while the hybrid deployment model supports virtualized and appliance-based architectures. Licensing is handled through contact with a sales representative rather than a published standard billing structure. XipOS is a strong fit for teams managing constrained, heterogeneous, or encrypted WANs that need acceleration, traffic control, and centralized management together. It is less appropriate for organizations seeking only a narrow, lightweight optimization tool without tunnel handling, link coordination, or protocol-specific acceleration.

XipOS pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • SCPS-TP acceleration, compression, caching, and stream optimization
    • Application-aware QoS, link bonding, steering, and traffic shaping
    • Centralized GUI, XMS, SNMP, and Netconf management
  • Where it doesn't
    • Pricing requires contact with a sales representative
    • Its broad feature set may exceed simple WAN acceleration needs
    • Self-hosted deployment requires a virtual network function or appliance
