WSO2 API Manager is an open-source API management server for organizations that need to design, secure, publish, govern, and monitor APIs on their own infrastructure. It is suited to enterprise, government, financial services, healthcare, regulated, air-gapped, and data-resident environments. Support for REST, GraphQL, WebSocket, and Webhook APIs gives teams one platform for varied API programs, while web, desktop, API, and self-hosted deployment options broaden its fit.
Its feature coverage extends from API design and OpenAPI specification import through creation, governance, deprecation, and retirement. Gateway deployment supports traffic management, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and throttling policies. Publisher and developer portals cover publication, discovery, subscriptions, and key management. Analytics and usage monitoring connect through Moesif, and monetization supports usage-based and tiered pricing models. Integrations include AWS API Gateway, Azure API Gateway, Kong, Envoy Gateway, and Moesif, making the product relevant where existing gateway or analytics components need to remain part of the architecture.
The published plans show a 30-Day Trial with five managed interfaces, 10M gateway events, and no credit card required. Growth includes up to 10 managed interfaces, up to 10M gateway events, and basic analytics. Enterprise adds self-hosted availability, federation, a private data plane, and enterprise support; self-hosted API Manager Enterprise pricing is custom. Choose WSO2 API Manager when broad lifecycle, policy, portal, analytics, and monetization coverage matters across a self-managed API estate. Organizations seeking a free plan or a narrower developer-portal tool should consider alternatives.
