Our verdict on WOWPASS
WOWPASS combines a prepaid card with a mobile app for foreign travelers in South Korea. Users can top up with supported foreign currencies, cards or e-wallets, pay at participating merchants, and keep a separate Tmoney balance for public transportation. The iOS and Android app shows card and transit balances, payment history and real-time alerts. It also supports finding WOWPASS exchange machines, pausing a lost card, arranging a replacement, sending card balance to a friend, splitting a bill, and viewing coupons, rewards and cashback offers.
The app is free to download and use, with no separate paid tiers described. Card issuance and cash withdrawal are available through self-service machines in Korea, while card, top-up and withdrawal charges may apply. This structure suits travelers who want one prepaid payment flow and visibility into both spending and transit balances, but costs should be checked for the specific transaction before relying on the card for a trip budget.
Tmoney is the key ecosystem connection: its balance can be viewed in WOWPASS and used for public transportation. The standout value is the combination of foreign-currency top-ups, merchant payments, transit access, alerts and lost-card controls in one travel-focused service. Its scope is narrower than a general-purpose payment wallet, and the deployment is mobile-only. Travelers spending primarily in South Korea who prefer prepaid controls should find the feature set relevant; people seeking broad international payments, desktop access or a conventional multi-tier account should consider a wider payment app instead.
