Our verdict on WiKID
WiKID is a self-hosted, software-based two-factor authentication system for organizations protecting VPNs, privileged access, remote access, extranets, and custom applications. It combines an authentication server with software token clients and network clients. Desktop and mobile token support covers Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chrome, while web, API, and self-hosted deployments extend its reach. Its supported factors are a PIN and a WiKID software token or device, using request-response one-time passcodes and asymmetric-key encryption.
Pricing follows a freemium model. The Enterprise free tier includes the complete Enterprise version for up to 5 users. Enterprise annual pricing starts at $24 per user per year with annual upfront payment and includes a self-hosted Strong Authentication Server plus automated token rollout scripts based on Active Directory credentials. A 30-day free trial is also available. The platform connects with RADIUS, LDAP, TACACS+, SAML, native Active Directory, VPNs, Cisco, Check Point, Fortinet, pfSense, and custom applications. API packages are available for Python, Ruby, Java, C#, and PHP.
WiKID suits teams that want control over deployment, token infrastructure, and authentication data, particularly where protocol compatibility and custom application access matter. Device-specific token information, locked tokens, self-registration, pre-registration, multi-tenancy, reporting, and logging add administrative depth. The tradeoff is a narrower factor set than products that support a wider range of verified authentication methods, along with the operational responsibility of running a self-hosted server. Teams seeking software-token and PIN authentication with extensive protocol or API integration should consider WiKID; organizations prioritizing a broader factor selection may prefer an alternative.
