Our verdict on WiFi Guard
WiFi Guard is a free Linux desktop app for scanning a local Wi-Fi network and reviewing the devices connected to it. It is aimed at people who want a straightforward device list rather than a broader security-monitoring tool. The app displays device details such as IP addresses, shows previously recognized devices, and lets users assign names to them. It is the project at wifiguard.cz, not the separate product with the same name from SoftPerfect.
The core feature is local-network discovery using an ARP scanner. WiFi Guard presents connected devices and their details, then helps make repeat scans easier to read by showing recognized computers or devices and allowing custom names. Scan data can also be exported as HTML for viewing in a web browser. That makes it a focused fit for checking what appears on a network and keeping a readable record; it does not extend into security checks or monitoring alerts.
The published offering is free and Linux-only, with a desktop deployment and email support. The project site is dated and mentions a planned rewrite in 2023, while the available pages do not establish whether that rewrite shipped. Choose WiFi Guard if a simple, no-cost device list on Linux is the main need. If you need security checks, alerts, or support on another platform, this product's stated scope is a poor fit.
