WhatsUp Gold is network performance and IT infrastructure monitoring software from Progress Software. It is designed for IT and network teams that need to discover devices, map topology, monitor availability and performance, analyze traffic, manage configurations, and investigate faults across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. The product supports device, server, application, wireless, virtualization, and network-path monitoring, with web access alongside its Windows Server-based deployment.
Its breadth is the main reason to consider it. Network discovery includes Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology mapping, while performance tools cover bandwidth, latency, packet loss, jitter, availability, and network paths with route visualization and historical path data. Traffic flow analysis, configuration management, change auditing, distributed monitoring, scalability pollers, certificate monitoring, and custom dashboards extend it beyond basic uptime checks. REST API and workflow integrations with ServiceNow, OpsGenie, Microsoft Teams, and Flowmon help connect monitoring to operational processes.
The licensing structure gives smaller environments a way to start: the Free Edition monitors up to 10 devices and includes topology mapping, performance and availability monitoring, dashboards, reporting, alerts, and notifications. Business costs $1,229 annually for 50 devices and adds a single installation, standard network monitoring, and 10/5 email support. Enterprise costs $2,049 annually for 50 devices, while Enterprise Plus costs $3,469 annually for 50 devices; both add advanced reporting and monitoring, with up to two or four installations respectively and 24/5 phone and email support. Premium is a $5,089 perpetual license for 50 devices, and Total Plus is a $14,439 perpetual license for 50 points with configuration, traffic, log, virtual, and application monitoring. WhatsUp Gold suits teams seeking broad coverage; buyers wanting a narrowly focused or more platform-flexible tool should look elsewhere.
