Wasabi Cloud NAS review
A focused Windows gateway for tiering and retrieving files in Wasabi.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Wasabi Cloud NAS is hybrid gateway software for organizations extending on-premises NAS, SAN, or DAS capacity with Wasabi object storage. Installed on a Microsoft Windows server, it connects local sources to cloud targets while preserving familiar file access patterns. The product is aimed at Windows teams managing growing file datasets that need file offload, retrieval, synchronization, and policy-based movement between source and bucket tiers. It supports SMB and NFS file protocols, and its global namespace is designed to present storage through a unified access model.
Pricing is structured around two plans. Pay as you go costs $9.99 USD per TB per month, billed monthly, and includes Cloud NAS software and storage, no fees for egress or API requests, and basic support. Reserved capacity storage includes no fees for egress or API requests, a premium support plan, and term- and capacity-based discounts; its price depends on those commitments. There is no free plan. The published pricing note says the $9.99/TB/month Cloud NAS price applies to accounts starting or becoming paid on or after September 15, 2026, while pre-existing contracts may differ.
Its main strength is focused file tiering rather than broad multi-cloud coverage. Wasabi Cloud NAS can replicate and offload files, replace eligible files with nearline stubs, retrieve files automatically or manually, synchronize source and target locations, and apply storage management policies. Ransomware protection, replica versioning, upload bandwidth controls, event logging, and a Windows Explorer shell extension add operational controls around the core gateway workflow. Choose it if your environment is Windows-based and Wasabi is the intended object-storage destination. Choose an alternative if you need support for other cloud targets or operating systems.
Wasabi Cloud NAS pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Nearline stubs reduce local storage use while preserving file access
- Policy-based tiering, synchronization, versioning, and ransomware protection
- Windows Explorer integration with bandwidth controls and event logging
- Where it doesn't
- Runs on Windows rather than across multiple operating systems
- Supports Wasabi object storage as its cloud target
- Reserved capacity pricing and discounts depend on term and capacity
