Wan is Alibaba Cloud’s open-source family of video generation models, aimed at developers, researchers, and technical teams able to run Python and GPU-based inference locally. Its repositories support text-to-video and image-to-video generation, as well as video editing, speech-to-video, and character animation. This is a self-hosted model family rather than a conventional SaaS subscription, so it suits teams that want to run open models in their own environment, not buyers seeking a hosted editor with a managed workflow.

The breadth of video tasks is a notable strength: Wan includes character replacement alongside generation and animation, and supports prompt extension using local Qwen models or DashScope. Local Python inference keeps the workflow centered on a technical environment. Code and weights are distributed through GitHub, Hugging Face, and ModelScope, with integrations also including Diffusers and ComfyUI.
