Vultr DNS review
Free authoritative DNS for Vultr customers who want API, CLI, and Terraform workflows.

Vultr DNS provides managed authoritative DNS for developers and businesses handling domain zones. Available to all Vultr customers, its free plan covers managed DNS records and zones. It suits teams that want to manage DNS alongside Vultr services and automate changes through an API, CLI, or Terraform. Domains must use Vultr’s authoritative nameservers to be managed through the service, so it is not a fit for domains that need to remain on another provider’s nameservers.
The service combines record controls with operational settings: users can create, edit, and delete DNS records, manage SOA settings, and enable DNSSEC with DS record generation. Supported record capabilities include CAA and SSHFP, as well as Punycode handling. Vanity or branded nameservers are also supported. That makes Vultr DNS more than a basic interface for editing common records, while keeping its focus on authoritative DNS management rather than traffic delivery or health monitoring.
Automation is a notable part of the offering. DNS management is available through the Vultr API, with CLI and Terraform workflows for teams that prefer command-line or infrastructure-as-code processes. The free offering is compelling for existing Vultr customers who want these controls without a paid DNS tier. Choose another service if your requirements depend on health checks, traffic steering, or secondary DNS; Vultr DNS is best suited to straightforward zone management and automation within its nameserver model.
