VMware VeloCloud SASE combined cloud-delivered software-defined WAN for enterprise branch locations with secure remote access for remote and hybrid users, devices and applications. It also connected SaaS and cloud services through distributed points of presence, positioning the offering for organizations managing branches, remote workers, devices and cloud applications from a centralized architecture.
Its coverage spans secure web gateway functions including reverse proxy, content analysis, cloud firewall and SSL inspection, alongside Symantec SSE protection for web traffic, users and devices. CASB capabilities provide application visibility, control and shadow-IT control, while Symantec DLP Cloud integration supports data-loss-prevention workflows. Centralized orchestration covers configuration, monitoring and policy management. Edge Intelligence adds analytics using machine learning and big-data processing, giving the platform a broader SASE scope than a branch-connectivity product focused only on SD-WAN.
The main buying consideration is lifecycle status. The VMware VeloCloud SASE Secured by Symantec offering reached end of life on June 30, 2026, and its end of sale and end-of-life status makes it unsuitable for organizations selecting a current offering for a new deployment. Arista Networks continues VeloCloud with best-of-breed SASE integrations, but this specified VMware offering is discontinued. Buyers evaluating the discontinued product should account for that status before proceeding; its published capability set is most relevant for understanding its former enterprise branch SASE coverage rather than choosing it as a current deployment.
