VMProtect is executable protection and packing software for native and .NET applications. It is designed for developers and commercial software teams that need to protect code against reverse engineering, analysis, and unauthorized modification. The product supports Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android targets, with desktop editions for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its protection scope covers PE, Mach-O, ELF, and .NET assembly formats, with multi-architecture support and a perpetual license model.

Its main strength is the depth of its protection toolkit. VMProtect combines code virtualization using embedded virtual machines with code mutation, executable packing, in-memory unpacking, memory protection, import protection, resource protection, and detection for debuggers and virtualization tools. Professional adds an advanced interface, scripts, watermarks, and a console version to the Lite feature set. Lua scripting and console support give teams additional ways to fit protection into their workflows, while virtual files extend the packaging options for Windows binaries.

The edition structure makes Ultimate the relevant choice for commercial licensing requirements. It adds a licensing system, an activation system, and virtual files for Windows binaries on top of Professional features, while Lite and Professional focus on protection and tooling. Online and offline activation are supported, and the product includes a separate Updates Renewal plan for an additional year of updates after the initial update period. Choose VMProtect when executable protection and licensing need to sit in the same product. Teams seeking those licensing controls must select Ultimate rather than the lower editions, and users looking for a free option should choose an alternative.
