Our verdict on Vestrybooks
Vestrybooks is cloud-based church accounting and giving software for small churches and volunteer treasurers. It records income and expenses by fund using double-entry accounting, tracks gifts against donors and funds, and supports online giving where available. Per-person logins and an immutable audit log support shared financial work, while its plain-language interface is aimed at congregations without a dedicated bookkeeper. The vendor says it is not intended for multi-site churches, large staffs with full payroll, or accounting needs requiring a dedicated bookkeeper.
The Free plan costs $0 per month and includes money-in and money-out records, fund tracking, a donor list, online giving with no Vestrybooks platform cut where available, and previews of year-end statements. Core costs $25 monthly or $250 annually. It adds IRS-ready year-end giving statements, bank matching across multiple accounts, credit-card tracking, and budget, board, and balance-sheet reports. Plus costs $39 monthly or $390 annually, adding board view-only access, unlimited users, and priority support. A 30-day free trial is offered, and the trial does not require a card. Annual-plan refunds are available within 14 days of a charge; monthly plans are generally non-refundable.
Bank matching and fund-level expense tracking make the paid tiers relevant for churches that need more than basic records. Automatic bank feeds are limited to US banks, and online card giving is limited to regions supported by the payment provider. Stripe is the listed integration, and support is by email. These boundaries make Vestrybooks a better fit for a small congregation with straightforward fund accounting needs than for a multi-site organization or a church that needs full payroll or a dedicated bookkeeper. Churches that need board oversight can consider Plus; those needing core reports can choose Core, while simpler recordkeeping is covered by Free.
