Our verdict on VeneraNext
VeneraNext is a free, open-source comic reader for people who keep comics on local devices or WebDAV libraries and want to read across desktop and mobile. It runs on Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and macOS. Local imports include image folders, CBZ, ZIP, 7Z, CB7, PDF, and image-based EPUB files, making it suitable for varied personal collections. Its project describes itself as a personal, non-profit effort and provides downloads under GPL-3.0.
The cross-device workflow is its clearest distinction. Readers can download chapters for offline access and sync app data across devices using WebDAV. The app also supports reading from WebDAV libraries, alongside user-configured JavaScript comic-source extensions. Those extensions are configured by users; the project does not bundle or recommend comic sources. This makes VeneraNext a fit for readers comfortable managing their own library and source setup, rather than anyone expecting a ready-made online catalog or bundled cloud account.
Reading options include gallery, continuous-scroll, and cross-chapter waterfall modes, with settings for night dimming and splitting horizontal double-page images. Favorites, reading history, and read-later lists help organize a collection, while local comics can be exported and restored as CBZ archives. It is a focused choice for individual readers who value format breadth, offline access, and movement between supported platforms. Readers who need built-in comic sources or a more managed support experience should consider alternatives; VeneraNext lists community and documentation as its support channels.
