Our verdict on UserLock

UserLock is identity and access management software for organizations using on-premises or hybrid Microsoft Active Directory. It applies multi-factor authentication to Windows logins, RDP, VPN, IIS applications, SaaS applications, and UAC prompts. The product also includes single sign-on, device and workstation restrictions, session limits, concurrent-login controls, real-time monitoring, threat alerts, and audit reports. Its stated audience includes small and medium-sized businesses, enterprises, and managed service providers that want to secure Active Directory without moving identity management entirely to the cloud.

For access control depth, UserLock goes beyond a single MFA checkpoint. Policies can use the user, device, IP address, location, time, and session type, while device trust, passwordless authentication, and adaptive access support more selective enforcement. Supported factors include push notifications, hardware security keys, TOTP authenticator apps, and Windows Hello for Business. Offline and air-gapped MFA enforcement is also available, which fits environments where access decisions cannot depend entirely on cloud connectivity. Session monitoring, alerts, and audit reports add visibility across logons, MFA events, and administrator activity.

The hybrid deployment model connects with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, AWS, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Slack, ServiceNow, Zendesk, and other SaaS applications. Integration methods include SAML SSO, OIDC-compatible SSO, IIS agent, and RADIUS/NPS. According to the published plan information, UserLock is offered through contact with sales, with no free plan and a 30-day fully featured trial that supports unlimited users without a credit card. Choose it when Active Directory session control, device restrictions, and broad MFA coverage are central requirements. Organizations seeking a standalone cloud-first identity product or a free tier should consider alternatives.
