urql review
An open-source GraphQL client with framework bindings and exchange-based customization.

For JavaScript frontend teams, urql is an open-source GraphQL client library distributed as packages for application projects, rather than a hosted service. It offers bindings for React, Preact, Vue, Solid, and Svelte, so teams can use it across several framework choices. Its core client uses exchanges to handle operation execution and lets developers customize request and data behavior. That makes urql a fit for teams that want a client they can adapt within an application, rather than a broader platform for managing GraphQL APIs.
Caching is a key distinction in its feature set. urql uses document caching by default, while Graphcache adds optional normalized caching for teams that need that approach. The exchange architecture also supports extending behavior, including custom fetching and subscriptions. A browser developer tools extension is available for debugging. These capabilities put the emphasis on client-side operation and data handling; urql is not positioned as an API explorer, schema registry, client code generator, or operation-testing suite. Teams needing those tools alongside the client will need a separate solution.
urql is free and open source, and its deployment model is self-hosted in the sense that the library is included in application projects rather than operated as a hosted service. Support channels are documentation and community. The scope can suit solo developers through enterprise teams, but adoption still depends on fitting a JavaScript framework and integrating a library into the application. Choose urql if you want framework bindings, configurable exchanges, and a choice of caching approaches. Consider another product if you need a hosted GraphQL service or a wider API development toolset in one product.
