Unmapped is a browser-based creative studio for turning datasets, stories, and ideas into interactive map experiences. It is aimed at visual journalists, documentary creators, educators, researchers, analysts, newsrooms, historians, agencies, and travel creators. CSV and GeoJSON imports provide a starting point, while interactive narratives, annotations, captions, animated data layers, and temporal windows support explanatory storytelling. The product is described as live in beta and is available on the web.

Its standout strength is the depth of its scene and presentation controls. Users can combine terrain, diorama views, photorealistic 3D city scenes, heatmaps, hexbins, voxels, flows, and models with timed scenes, camera moves, route reveals, overlays, narration, and export. That makes Unmapped a strong fit when a map needs to function as a guided visual story rather than a static reference. Public, private, and unlisted publishing add useful control over how a finished narrative is shared.

The freemium pricing gives smaller projects a clear entry point. Free includes three branded published stories, 500 MB of storage, and manual 2D editing and previews. Pro costs $29 per month and adds 10 published maps, 10 GB of storage, terrain and 3D buildings, MCP support, ChatGPT app integrations, and 500 monthly credits for AI and Google Photorealistic 3D. Studio costs $79 per month, with 50 published maps, 50 GB of storage, three editor seats, and 3,000 monthly credits, alongside MCP support and ChatGPT app integrations. Choose Unmapped for map-led narratives with animated or 3D scenes; teams needing broader integrations or a non-web workflow should consider alternatives.
