Universal Viewer is a Windows desktop file viewer from UVviewsoft for people who need one application to open many document, image, media, web, markup and text formats. Its free edition views Word and Excel files without Microsoft Office, along with PDF, DJVU, XPS, CBR, CBZ, images, RAW camera formats and multimedia. It also supports files through Total Commander Lister plugins, making it suited to Windows users who want broad file coverage from the desktop.
Its feature range is the main reason to consider it. Universal Viewer integrates with the Windows Explorer context menu and searches text with match highlighting, so it can support quick file inspection without opening a full editing application. The Pro edition adds built-in Word, Excel and PDF viewing, expanded multimedia support, complex RTF viewing, RAW-image support and image conversion in the Pro image panel. The product is focused on viewing rather than editing, so users seeking document creation or spreadsheet authoring should choose a different type of application.
The licensing structure separates personal and organizational use. The Free plan is a freeware edition, while the Pro edition has a 15-day trial. The Personal license costs $26 one time and permits use on two computers, but not in a company. The Business license costs $150 one time for seven computers, and the Site license costs $360 one time for any number of computers within one company or organization. Universal Viewer fits Windows users who prioritize format coverage, search and Explorer access. It is less suitable for people on other platforms or organizations that need editing tools rather than file viewing.
