UBports Installer review
A free guided installer for Ubuntu Touch, limited to its supported mobile-device catalog.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
UBports Installer is a desktop tool for people who want Ubuntu Touch on a supported mobile device without handling device-specific installation steps manually. It guides the process through a graphical interface: connect the phone over USB, follow the prompts, and the installer retrieves the required images and handles device setup. Windows, macOS, and Linux computers are supported. Its fit is narrow by design: this is not a general-purpose OS deployment platform for managing operating systems across a fleet of computers.
The workflow is valuable because it brings together image retrieval and device-specific setup, rather than leaving the user to perform those steps separately. That convenience still depends on device compatibility and preparation. UBports documentation says bootloader unlocking and USB debugging are required. It also warns that switching from Android erases existing device data, so users should account for data loss before beginning. The USB connection is central to the installation process; this is not an unattended or multicast deployment tool.
UBports Installer is free and open source, making it a fit for individuals and small-scale use who specifically want Ubuntu Touch on a compatible phone. Documentation and community support are the stated support channels. Choose it when its supported-device catalog and guided workflow match the goal. Choose another tool for broad OS deployment, unattended installs, driver injection, or deployment beyond the Ubuntu Touch mobile-device use case.
