UABEA is a free, open-source desktop utility for reading and writing Unity Asset Bundles and Serialized Files. It is aimed at modding and research workflows that require more than straightforward extraction, including asset inspection, data editing, importing, exporting, compression, and archive repacking. Supported formats include Unity Asset Bundles, Unity Serialized Files, and Addressables bundles. Its documented asset coverage includes textures, TextAssets, TTF and OTF fonts, audio through a plugin, and MonoBehaviours.

For file analysis, UABEA combines serialized-data inspection with dependency and scene-hierarchy views. It can export and import JSON dumps, which supports workflows involving structured asset data, while batch extraction and archive repacking extend it beyond one-file-at-a-time inspection. Texture handling includes TGA and formats supported by the Texture2D plugin. These capabilities make it a practical fit for examining how Unity content is organized and for making targeted changes to bundles or serialized files.

UABEA’s main limitation is its focus: it is primarily a modding and research tool, not an extraction-only utility. That broader scope suits users who need to inspect, modify, compress, or repack Unity content, but may be more than needed for simple asset export. The repository describes the original UABEA version as superseded by UABEANext, a newer rewrite with docking and multi-bundle opening that is still a work in progress. Choose UABEA for cross-platform Unity bundle and serialized-file workflows; choose a narrower extractor when editing and structural inspection are not required.
