Our verdict on Tumblr

Tumblr combines blogging with social publishing for individuals and communities that want to share varied media and discover posts through blogs and tags. It supports text, images, video, audio, reblogging, likes, comments, asks, and submissions across the web, iOS, and Android. The free plan gives bloggers a broad starting point, while customizable themes, custom domains, scheduling, and secondary group blogs support more structured publishing.

The free offering covers many of Tumblr's core publishing tools, including scheduled posts, blog visits and popular-post tracking through Google Analytics, and an activity dashboard for blog and post interactions. Theme customization includes custom CSS and editable HTML, giving publishers more control over presentation than a basic hosted blog. Reblogging retains attribution, which suits communities built around sharing and discovery rather than standalone publishing alone.

Tumblr Premium costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Both published Premium plans include ad-free browsing, one complimentary post Blaze per month for eligible users, and higher publishing and upload limits. Premium is an optional subscription rather than a separate blogging plan, so the free tier remains central to the product. Choose Tumblr if social discovery, multimedia posts, reblogging, and community interaction matter most. Bloggers seeking a wider integration ecosystem or a clearly defined paid-membership system should consider another platform.
