Tucano Proxy is an open-source debugging proxy for developers who need to inspect local application traffic across portable, scriptable workflows. It captures HTTP, HTTPS, and WebSocket traffic, then presents request and response headers, bodies, and timing data through a local web inspector, interactive terminal UI, standalone CLI, or Tauri desktop application. Developers can save sessions locally in SQLite, filter traffic with multiple rules, replay authorized HTTP requests, and compose editable requests.

Its strongest fit is a workflow that moves between investigation, comparison, and handoff. Capture comparison provides header and body diffs, while exports cover cURL, PowerShell, JavaScript, Python, HTTPie, raw HTTP, and HAR. The self-generated root CA supports HTTPS inspection through OS trust-store installation. MCP integration and a coding-agent CLI skill also give the product a defined place in agent-assisted development workflows, although the broader integration surface is centered on MCP.

Tucano Proxy is less suitable when debugging depends on interception logic or simulated responses. Breakpoint rules and response mocking are not part of the current feature set, and WebSocket frame inspection is a roadmap item rather than an available capability. Its platform coverage is practical for CLI use across macOS, Windows, and Linux, while desktop installers target macOS and Windows. Choose it for local capture sessions, request replay, exports, and cross-interface inspection; choose an alternative when breakpoint-driven workflows, response simulation, or deeper WebSocket analysis are central requirements.

Tucano Proxy pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Captures HTTP, HTTPS, and WebSocket traffic with timing and body inspection
    • Portable SQLite sessions support filtering, comparison, and multi-format exports
    • Works across macOS, Windows, Linux, web, terminal, and MCP workflows
  • Where it doesn't
    • No breakpoint rules for intercepting traffic during capture
    • Response mocking and AutoResponder are not available as current features
    • Desktop installers are provided for macOS and Windows, not Linux
