Transit is a passenger-facing mobile app for finding nearby public transportation, checking departures and navigating trips. It is aimed at individuals who want transit information on iOS or Android, with walking, biking and supported shared transport included in multimodal plans. Its free plan covers trip planning and live information; the app is available in more than 1,200 cities, though real-time data availability varies with local agencies.
The central strength is how Transit brings journey information together: riders can see departure countdowns, vehicle locations and arrival predictions where agency data is available, then follow GO step-by-step directions. GO can notify riders about departures, transfers and stops. Crowdsourced bus and train location updates can supplement agency data, while service disruption alerts and push notifications are available in select cities. Saved locations and pinned routes help riders return to common journeys. This focus makes Transit useful for navigating a trip, rather than managing the operational side of transportation.
Fare handling is a clear boundary. Transit links to participating agencies’ separate ticketing apps for digital fares; it does not collect fares itself. It also lacks route scheduling, so agencies seeking scheduling or fare-management capabilities should look elsewhere. Transit Royale is a subscription, but its price varies by geography and appears in-app. The app is therefore a fit for individual riders who want free mobile navigation and arrival information, and a weaker fit for organizations needing scheduling, ticketing or agency operations software.
