Our verdict on tpt-court

tpt-court is an open-source court case management system for judges, clerks, lawyers, and members of the public. It brings case and party records, documents, hearings, notifications, payments, and public case search into a web application and API. Role-based access distinguishes judges, clerks, lawyers, and administrators. Its scope makes it relevant to teams seeking a self-hosted base for core court workflows, rather than a narrowly focused hearing calendar or case lookup tool.

The project’s feature set spans much of the case lifecycle: teams can create, list, update, and delete cases; manage parties; upload, list, and download documents; and create or update hearings with a calendar view. Public case search and case-detail endpoints provide an access path for people outside staff roles. Payment support consists of a payment API with Stripe PaymentIntent and webhook endpoints. That is a defined payment connection, not evidence of a broader integration ecosystem. Organizations evaluating payment workflows should check whether Stripe fits their requirements.

Deployment and ownership are central considerations. The project is licensed under MIT and includes self-hosting instructions; setup specifies PostgreSQL and supports Docker Compose. The web application uses Next.js, the API uses Fastify, and the project describes an Electron desktop wrapper. The listed support channel is documentation, so teams should be prepared to manage installation and operations themselves. Choose tpt-court if control, open-source access, and the listed court workflows matter more than a packaged service. Teams looking for commercial pricing, a wider set of integrations, or support beyond documentation should compare alternatives before adopting it.
