Titanium SDK review
An open-source JavaScript SDK for native mobile apps, with room to reach platform APIs directly.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
Titanium SDK is an open-source platform for building native iOS and Android applications with JavaScript. It is suited to JavaScript teams that want shared application logic while retaining native UI and access to mobile platform capabilities. APIs cover networking, media, location, and notifications, alongside local and remote data access. Alloy provides an MVC structure for applications, and the Titanium CLI supports creating, developing, and deploying them.
Its extension model is a key fit for teams whose needs go beyond the SDK’s abstractions. Hyperloop provides direct access to native APIs, while custom native modules can be developed for iOS and Android; third-party and community modules offer another path to extending apps. This flexibility means Titanium can serve projects that need native-specific capabilities, but it is not a way to avoid all platform-specific work. Teams seeking a broader cross-platform application suite may prefer a platform with a wider scope.
Titanium SDK is free for personal and commercial use under the Apache License 2.0. The project is maintained under TiDev; the former commercial Appcelerator offering was discontinued, while Titanium SDK remains open source. The published support channels are documentation and community resources, with debugging and profiling guidance among the available development features. Choose Titanium if JavaScript is central to your team and you want native mobile apps with options for direct API access and custom modules. It is less suited to teams that require vendor support channels beyond community and documentation, or whose work is not primarily focused on iOS and Android.
Titanium SDK pros and cons

- JavaScript APIs abstract native mobile functions, including networking and media
- Alloy MVC, Titanium CLI, and Hyperloop support distinct development workflows
- Custom native modules and community modules extend iOS and Android apps
- Where it doesn't
- Focused on mobile app development rather than broad application platforms
- Native extensions can require platform-specific development work
- Support channels are community and documentation
