Tilix review
A capable free terminal workspace for Linux users who manage many sessions.

Tilix is an open-source terminal emulator for Linux, built around tiled terminal workspaces rather than a single command window. It suits developers, administrators, and other Linux users who need to monitor or control several terminals at once. Horizontally and vertically split panes, tabs, session sidebars, custom titles, and hyperlinks help organize active work, while synchronized input can send the same commands to multiple terminals. SSH support is also listed among its category capabilities.
The software is free and distributed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, with packages available for multiple Linux distributions. Its feature set goes beyond pane management: users can drag terminals between windows, save and load grouped layouts, switch profiles automatically based on username, hostname, or directory, and use terminal triggers to run commands or other actions. Command-line actions add a scripting and automation path, while Quake-style drop-down mode supports quick access. GTK+ 3, VTE, dconf, GSettings, and Nautilus integrations place Tilix within the Linux desktop ecosystem.
Tilix is most compelling when a Linux workflow depends on repeatable, multi-terminal layouts and coordinated input. Transparent backgrounds, background images, and profile controls add customization, but they are secondary to its workspace model. The main consideration is project momentum: the current maintenance status is minimal, and no new features are planned. Choose Tilix for a free, open-source Linux terminal with deep layout and synchronization features; choose an alternative if cross-platform coverage or ongoing feature development is a priority.
