Throughline is a desktop story-development and writing application for screenwriters, novelists, game writers, and other narrative creators. It brings Beat Cards, Character and Setting cards, Structures, Emotional Arcs, and Character Constellations into one project, then pairs them with prose and screenplay editors. The app is designed for individual writers and runs on macOS and Windows, with local project storage and offline use after activation. Its strongest fit is a solo creator who wants story planning and drafting in the same writing environment.
Its standout advantage is the combination of narrative planning and format-aware writing. Beat Cards help structure story events, while Emotional Arcs and Character Constellations provide dedicated views for plotlines and relationships. Live screenplay formatting sits alongside prose mode, so a project can support both forms.
