Threagile review
A free YAML-driven toolkit for automated threat modeling and structured security reports.

Threagile is a free, open-source toolkit for modeling software architectures in YAML and analyzing them with security risk rules. It is aimed at developers and security teams that want threat modeling integrated into software delivery workflows, particularly engineers who prefer architecture and security checks to be represented as code. Models can be edited in an IDE, tracked in Git, and analyzed through command-line execution, Docker, a REST server, or the hosted playground.
Its strongest area is the connection between structured authoring and automated analysis. Teams can define architectures and data flows in YAML, apply standard or custom risk rules, and generate risk reports with mitigation advice and risk tracking. Threagile also produces data-flow and data-asset diagrams, while exports in PDF, Excel, JSON, and other structured formats make the results usable beyond the modeling environment. IDE support adds schema validation, autocompletion, and live templates, which fits teams that already manage technical work in code editors and version-controlled workflows.
The main trade-off is focus. Threagile provides the core mechanics for code-based threat modeling, but its collaboration, risk-prioritization, and attack-path capabilities are limited. It also does not provide AI features. Engineers and security teams that value YAML authoring, customizable rules, automated checks, and flexible deployment should find the toolkit a close fit. Teams looking for deeper collaborative review workflows, stronger prioritization features, or dedicated attack-path analysis should consider a broader alternative instead.
