TestPlanIt is an open-source test management platform for development and QA teams managing manual and automated testing. Its feature set spans hierarchical test case repositories, templates, custom fields, shared steps, attachments, imports, execution history, milestone-based test runs, exploratory sessions, reporting, integrations, APIs, and AI-assisted testing features. Teams can deploy it themselves under the AGPL-3.0 license or choose hosted access through the Essentials, Team, Professional, or Dedicated plans. Unlimited users are included across the listed user-based hosted tiers.
Deployment choice is the main buying decision. The Self-Hosted plan provides unlimited users, features, and projects with self-managed deployment at no listed hosted subscription price. The Essentials plan starts at $99 per month and includes a 30-day trial, while the Team plan is $249 per month with always-on hosted access. Professional is $499 per month, and Dedicated provides enterprise and compliance hosting with pricing handled by sales. The Essentials workspace hibernates after inactivity, making it a different fit from the always-on Team plan.
TestPlanIt is well suited to teams that need one place for test design, execution, exploratory testing, coverage analysis, and QA reporting while staying connected to development workflows. Integrations include Jira, GitHub Issues, GitLab, Gitea, Forgejo, Gogs, Azure DevOps, Redmine, and MantisBT. Automation support includes SDKs, CLI tooling, JUnit imports, Playwright and WebdriverIO reporters, plus TestNG, xUnit, and NUnit connections. Teams wanting free self-hosting and broad workflow coverage should consider it; teams that prefer fully managed deployment without operational responsibility should compare the hosted tiers carefully.
