Our verdict on tellows

tellows combines incoming caller identification, reverse phone-number search, and community reports across Android, iOS, and web. It is aimed at people who want context about unfamiliar callers and the option to block unwanted numbers, rather than a blocking-only app. When information is available, an incoming call can show a caller name, call type, and tellows score. Users can also rate numbers and add comments or call-type information, contributing to the community database and spam list.

The free features include incoming caller identification, number ratings, and reverse search. Automatic blocking of numbers on the community spam list is a Premium feature, as are personal blacklists and an ad-free experience. Users can configure blocking based on tellows score, and personal blacklist access works across devices. According to tellows, Android Premium includes a free trial month; app purchases are handled in-app and vary by store. This structure makes the free version useful for identification and lookup, while regular automatic blocking depends on choosing Premium.

The product’s distinct strength is its community layer: reports and ratings help provide context beyond a number lookup, and users can set blocking rules around the tellows score. That also means its usefulness depends on relevant caller information being available. tellows is a reasonable fit for people who value community-sourced caller context and want optional paid blocking on mobile. It is less suited to someone seeking a free automatic community-list blocker or a service centered on support beyond documentation. tellows lists GDPR among its compliance details.
