Tekton Pipelines review
A strong fit for teams that want pipeline control inside their own Kubernetes clusters.

Tekton Pipelines is an open-source framework for defining and executing CI/CD workflows on customer-managed Kubernetes clusters. It models Tasks, Pipelines, TaskRuns, and PipelineRuns as Kubernetes custom resources, with YAML-based definitions and execution through kubectl and APIs. The product is aimed at platform teams that want CI/CD resources managed within Kubernetes, particularly teams already operating clusters and comfortable with declarative configuration.
Its strongest feature set is the depth of workflow control available inside the Kubernetes model. Workspaces can share inputs, outputs, credentials, configurations, and build caches across tasks, while matrix-based fan-out creates parallel TaskRuns. Remote resolution can retrieve pipeline and task definitions from Git and other sources. PipelineRun status provides pipeline monitoring and auditability, and Pipelines-as-Code adds pull-request and push-triggered workflows with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket integrations.
The trade-off is operational ownership. Tekton Pipelines must be installed and run on a customer-managed Kubernetes cluster, so it is a self-hosted framework rather than a vendor-operated hosted CI service. The open-source model avoids paid-plan structures, but teams remain responsible for the surrounding Kubernetes environment and execution capacity. Choose Tekton when Kubernetes-native resources, YAML configuration, parallel workflow design, and repository-driven automation matter most. Teams seeking a hosted CI product or broader platform coverage should consider an alternative.
Tekton Pipelines pros and cons

- Workspaces, matrix fan-out, caching, and remote resolution
- Pipelines-as-Code supports pull-request and push workflows
- Where it doesn't
- Requires a customer-managed Kubernetes cluster
- No vendor-operated hosted CI option
- Platform coverage centers on Kubernetes and listed Git providers
