TaurusDB (formerly GaussDB(for MySQL)) review
A Huawei Cloud fit for large MySQL workloads that need recovery and high availability.

TaurusDB, formerly GaussDB(for MySQL), is Huawei Cloud's managed, MySQL-compatible database service. It is designed for individual developers and students working in development and test environments, small and medium-sized enterprises, Internet workloads, and larger production databases. The service separates compute and storage and is available through web and API access. Its three tiers cover general-purpose and dedicated configurations, with the Professional tier aimed at medium and large enterprise production databases and mission-critical finance and insurance workloads.
Recovery and availability are central strengths. TaurusDB provides automated full and incremental backups, point-in-time recovery, read replicas, storage autoscaling, and cross-AZ deployment with automatic failover. Private-network connectivity through VPC supports deployments within Huawei Cloud environments. Parallel query and near-data processing add depth for workloads that need more than basic MySQL compatibility. These capabilities make TaurusDB a stronger fit for applications where database continuity, recovery options, and elastic storage matter.
Its ecosystem fit is clearest for teams already using Huawei Cloud VPC, ECS, OBS, DRS, DAS, and Cloud Eye. That gives TaurusDB a focused platform context rather than a broad multi-cloud positioning. The Starter, Basic, and Professional plans also create a clear progression from development environments to enterprise production, but there is no free plan. Choose TaurusDB when MySQL compatibility, Huawei Cloud integration, failover, backups, and scaling are priorities. Teams seeking a provider-neutral database service or a no-cost starting tier should consider alternatives instead.
