Tacitus Mail is a privacy-focused email and communications hub for individuals who want a Tacitus address alongside existing mailboxes. Its unified inbox connects Tacitus and external IMAP/SMTP accounts, while calendar, notes, contacts, encrypted chat, and peer-to-peer audio and video calls extend beyond email. The service is hosted in the EU, supports GDPR, and fits solo users and small teams seeking consolidated communications with optional PGP/MIME protection.
The free plan provides a 2 GB mailbox, one @tacitusmail.com address, unlimited external accounts, and the core unified inbox, chat, 1:1 calls, calendar, notes, and contacts. Paid storage begins at €1.49 per month for 100 GB, with 200 GB at €2.49, 500 GB at €4.99, and 2 TB at €95.90 per year. Annual options include 100 GB for €14.90, 200 GB for €24.90, and 500 GB for €47.90. Paid tiers add Drive storage, custom domains, aliases, group video calls, meeting rooms, and priority email support.
Encryption is conditional rather than universal: outbound messages can receive automatic PGP/MIME encryption when a recipient’s public key is discoverable, while ordinary mail bodies remain server-side. Encrypted 1:1 chat uses the Olm double-ratchet, and calls use peer-to-peer WebRTC. Integrations cover Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Proton, Fastmail, Zoho, GMX, Yandex, AOL, and other IMAP/SMTP mailboxes. The native iOS app includes push notifications and CallKit, but its rollout is staged; users needing fully end-to-end encrypted mailbox storage or broader mobile coverage should consider another service.
