Our verdict on Tab
Tab is a free mobile bill-splitting app for friends dining together. It photographs an itemized receipt, extracts item names and prices with OCR, and lets each participant claim the items they ordered. Shared items can be claimed by multiple people, while selections synchronize in real time among participants on the same bill. Tab also handles proportional tax and tip, making it suited to restaurant checks where people ordered different items.
The app has no paid tiers: its pricing model is free, with the published product details describing a free plan. Tab runs on iOS and Android and is deployed for mobile use. Venmo is the listed integration, and settlement can also be recorded as a cash payment. A bill's participants can review or share summaries of past bills, giving the app a record-keeping function beyond the initial split. The Google Play listing currently makes the app available only through the US Play Store.
Tab's standout focus is receipt-based item claiming. The workflow combines a photographed receipt, participant selections, shared-item handling, proportional tax and tip, and a birthday option that divides one person's total among the other participants.
