Our verdict on T-Rex Miner

T-Rex Miner is self-hosted cryptocurrency mining software for NVIDIA GPUs, aimed at solo and small-scale miners who want control over how mining runs. It offers Windows and Linux builds, connects to a pool using a configured URL and credentials, and can be run with command-line options or a configuration file. The software is free, but the README describes a developer fee of 1%, or 2% for certain algorithms and their dual-mining modes. That fee is separate from a subscription price: the published pricing model is free.

Algorithm choice is a central strength. T-Rex supports multiple mining algorithms, including Autolykos2, Etchash, Ethash, FiroPow, KawPow, Octopus and others. Dual mining lets a miner run a second algorithm alongside the primary one. GPU selection and intensity controls, plus power and temperature tuning options, give operators settings to adjust for their own hardware. A watchdog can restart the miner after a crash or hang. This combination suits NVIDIA owners looking for algorithm flexibility and controls in one miner; it is not a fit for people seeking software for non-NVIDIA hardware.

The HTTP API reports miner and GPU status and allows configuration changes, which can help integrate local monitoring or control workflows. However, the API documentation covers local miner status and configuration, and the category specifications mark remote management as false. Buyers who need centrally managed remote miners should consider a tool that explicitly supports that capability. For operators comfortable managing a self-hosted Windows or Linux miner, T-Rex brings pool configuration, watchdog recovery and API access together; its narrower hardware scope and lack of remote-management support are the main trade-offs.
