SUSE NeuVector review
A broad self-hosted security platform for teams prioritizing runtime network defense.

SUSE NeuVector is an open-source, Kubernetes-native container security platform for teams building and operating containerized applications. It covers vulnerability and compliance scanning across images, registries, containers, hosts and orchestration platforms, alongside runtime protection, network controls, threat detection and admission control. The product is suited to organizations that want to manage security within Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher or Docker environments while retaining control of deployment and policy enforcement.
Its ecosystem fit is a notable strength. NeuVector connects with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps and CircleCI for CI/CD vulnerability scanning workflows. It also integrates with Rancher, Red Hat OpenShift, LDAP, Microsoft Active Directory, SAML, SYSLOG and webhooks. REST API access, multi-cluster management and web-based management support teams operating multiple environments or connecting security events to existing processes. Runtime controls include container, pod and host protection, process and file activity monitoring, network and application threat detection, Layer 7 firewalling and network segmentation.
The trade-off is the deployment model. NeuVector is self-hosted, so it fits teams prepared to operate security infrastructure rather than buyers seeking a hosted container security service. Its capabilities are concentrated around container images, registries, runtime behavior, network policy, deployment admission and CIS auditing; teams with broader software supply-chain requirements may need additional tooling for workflows outside that focus. Choose SUSE NeuVector when open-source deployment, runtime network defense and Kubernetes-oriented controls are priorities. Consider an alternative if managed delivery or a wider SBOM-centered scope matters more than infrastructure control.
SUSE NeuVector pros and cons
- Where it wins
- Runtime protection, threat detection and Layer 7 network controls
- Kubernetes and Docker CIS auditing with admission control
- CI/CD, identity, webhook and multi-cluster integrations
- Where it doesn't
- Requires a self-hosted deployment model
- Its scope centers on container and runtime controls rather than SBOM workflows
- May require more infrastructure ownership than managed alternatives
