Our verdict on Survey Solutions
Survey Solutions is an open-source survey management and data collection system developed by the World Bank. It is designed for national statistical offices, NGOs, universities, think tanks, and private survey firms that need more than a basic form builder. Its questionnaire tools support multilingual content, nested rosters, cascading questions, answer piping, conditional flows, validation, filtering, and calculated variables. Teams can run surveys through web interfaces, offline Android tablets, telephone workflows, or mixed modes, while managing assignments, supervision, approvals, aggregation, exports, reporting, and analysis.
Its strongest fit is complex field research. Offline Android collection combines GPS, geography, geofencing, barcode, picture, audio, and sensor capture, while custom dashboards, automated quality controls, and paradata monitoring support oversight during collection. The platform also provides REST and GraphQL APIs and can connect with external databases, giving organizations options for integrating survey operations with existing systems. These capabilities make it suitable for structured programs that require field controls, multiple collection channels, and detailed operational management.
