Streamlabs Desktop review
A capable free streaming suite, but virtual-camera workflows are not its clearest focus.

Streamlabs Desktop is downloadable desktop software for live streaming, recording, and audience interaction on Windows and macOS. It is aimed at streamers, gamers, and creators who want scene and source management alongside alerts, overlays, widgets, chat tools, guest cameras, and recording. Core streaming and recording tools are available through a free plan, while Streamlabs Ultra adds broader creator features. The product supports Twitch, YouTube, Kick, TikTok, X, Trovo, Facebook, Instagram, Patreon, and custom RTMP destinations.
Its strongest fit is a feature-rich broadcast workflow rather than a narrow virtual-camera utility. Streamlabs Desktop can manage webcams, games, desktops, music, and microphones, with local recording without watermarks or time limits. Dual Output supports simultaneous vertical and horizontal streams, while gameplay-triggered automations can handle visuals, scene switches, clips, and replays. Selective and multi-track recording add control for creators producing content beyond a live broadcast. Collab Cam supports guest or additional camera feeds, and the platform includes native integrations plus custom RTMP delivery.
Pricing is straightforward at the plan level. The free Starter plan includes core streaming tools, recording, Dual Output, limited themes and overlays, Basic Cloudbot, and one guest or camera. Ultra adds multistreaming, all themes and overlays, the full app library, up to 11 guests or cameras, a custom tip page, and 10 GB of storage. According to the published Desktop pricing, Ultra costs $27 per month or $179 per year. Choose Streamlabs Desktop if alerts, widgets, automation, recording, and multistreaming matter together; choose an alternative if dedicated virtual-camera output is the primary requirement.
