StorPool Disaster Recovery Engine is a built-in disaster recovery component for StorPool Storage deployments running KVM-based cloud environments. It is designed for cloud builders, service providers, managed service providers, and enterprises operating multi-site virtual infrastructure. The engine creates and replicates VM recovery points between zones, then supports recovery-zone failover, planned failover, failback, migration, and recovery-point management.

Its ecosystem fit is a key consideration. The engine integrates with OpenStack, CloudStack, OpenNebula, and Proxmox, while REST APIs support disaster recovery operations. Per-VM services and policies allow protection to be organized around individual virtual machines. The published deployment model is on-premises, with Linux, API, and self-hosted platform support. Pricing is contact-sales and quote-based for StorPool Storage; the Disaster Recovery Engine is included with the StorPool license rather than sold as a separately priced standalone plan. There is no free plan.

Protection design is broader than a single failover pattern. StorPool supports active-passive, active-active, many-to-one, and multi-site mesh topologies, which suits different arrangements across zones and sites. Non-disruptive test failover uses a test VM, allowing recovery procedures to be exercised without disrupting production workloads. Failover and failback orchestration, policies, and recovery runbooks support structured operations. Choose it when your environment is built around KVM and a compatible private-cloud platform, especially when multi-site topology options and API control matter. Consider an alternative if you need protection for workloads beyond KVM virtual machines or prefer transparent, self-service plan pricing.
