Storj review
A focused object storage service for distributed data and S3-compatible workflows.

Storj provides cloud object storage for organizations managing backups, media, AI data, and other large files. Its hosted service offers an S3-compatible REST API and gateway, while Gateway ST supports self-hosted deployments. Data is split and distributed across a global network using erasure coding rather than conventional regional replication. That positioning makes Storj a strong fit for teams seeking distributed storage with S3 access, versioning, retention controls, and support for large objects.
The pricing structure has a 30-day free trial with 25 GB of free storage, S3-compatible app support, and no credit card required. The Standard plan costs $7 per TB per month and provides globally distributed storage with $7/TB egress. Advanced costs $10 per TB per month and adds region-specific storage, while also listing U.S. SOC 2 Type 2 compliant data centers and $7/TB egress. The paid tiers therefore separate global placement from region-specific placement, giving buyers a direct choice between the two storage models.
Storj’s feature set is strongest around object controls and S3-oriented workflows. Object versioning, Object Lock with governance, compliance, and legal hold modes, object-level TTL expiration, and multipart uploads address retention and large-file management. Integrations include Amazon S3-compatible clients, Rclone, Veeam, and Google Cloud Pub/Sub for bucket event notifications. Teams that need conventional replication scope or AWS lifecycle configuration may prefer another service: Storj’s S3 API does not support AWS PutBucketLifecycleConfiguration, and its lifecycle behavior uses Storj-specific TTL controls. Choose Storj for erasure-coded distribution and focused object storage; look elsewhere when regional replication is central.
