StaffPortal is a self-hosted, open-source HR and workforce platform for small and medium-sized organisations. It brings together attendance, timesheets, leave requests and accruals, expense claims, visitor management, announcements, polls, wellness, IT support, and employee data. A PIN-based kiosk supports clock-ins and visitor check-ins, while QR codes and PDF passes support visitor workflows. Its strongest fit is for technical teams that want a free workforce system they can deploy and manage on their own infrastructure.

The published product details show a free plan built around MIT-licensed software rather than a hosted subscription structure. Organisations deploy the application themselves, and each deployment serves one organisation. StaffPortal runs as a Next.js application using Supabase and can be deployed on Vercel or other infrastructure. The surrounding ecosystem includes Supabase, Vercel, Resend, Groq, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, GitHub, and GitLab. OAuth and SAML 2.0 support also make it suitable for teams that already manage identity through established work platforms.

Governance features give StaffPortal useful depth for a focused workforce tool: role-based access, an immutable audit log, GDPR data export, and single sign-on are all included. The trade-off is scope. It does not cover onboarding or performance management, and the positioning is narrower around operational workforce tasks than a broader HR suite with verified employee records. Mobile support is on the roadmap rather than shipped. Choose StaffPortal when self-hosting, source availability, attendance, leave, expenses, visitors, and access controls matter most; choose an alternative when mobile apps, onboarding, performance management, or a wider HR scope are central requirements.
