STACKIT MongoDB Flex review
A configurable managed MongoDB service for European teams that need deployment flexibility.
Reviewed by iTechGuides Editors · Editorial team · Updated Oct 2026
STACKIT MongoDB Flex is a managed MongoDB service for companies and organizations that want hosted document-database infrastructure. It supports single instances, three-node replica sets, and nine-node sharded clusters, making it suitable for workloads that range from simpler deployments to configurations requiring higher availability. MongoDB versions 7.0 and 8.0 are selectable according to the instance-creation documentation. European teams that need configurable resources and region-specific hosting are the clearest fit.
The service uses paid net EUR list pricing for the Germany South region. Monthly figures are projected from 720 hours, while storage and backup are billed separately. The published plans include three-node replica-set options such as MongoDB-Flex-1.4-Replica-EU01, MongoDB-Flex-2.8-Replica-EU01, MongoDB-Flex-4.16-Replica-EU01, and MongoDB-Flex-4.32-Replica-EU01. Users can configure CPU, memory, storage size, and storage performance independently, rather than selecting only a fixed resource bundle. Automated maintenance, patching, updates, backups, and point-in-time recovery reduce routine infrastructure work.
Operational control is a notable strength. Instances can be managed through the STACKIT Portal, CLI, API, Terraform, or Cloud Foundry, with Prometheus metrics proxy support and portal monitoring. ACL-based IPv4 access control and private networking support add network-management options, while cloning suits testing, staging, and recovery workflows. Auto-scaling is not supported, so teams needing automatic resource adjustment should consider another service. STACKIT MongoDB Flex is a strong choice for teams that value deployment variety, infrastructure-as-code access, and recovery features; it is less suitable for users seeking a free tier or bundled storage and backup pricing.
