Our verdict on Spoken

Spoken is an AI audiobook studio for authors, publishers, rights holders, and creative teams. It accepts EPUB, Word, text, and other manuscript files, then automatically organizes content into chapters for narration. Projects can use single, dual, or full-cast voices, with automatic character voice generation and personal voice cloning from a training sample. Commercial rights are included, making Spoken a fit for teams producing publishable audiobook catalogs rather than one-off voice experiments.

Its strongest distinction is production depth. Passage-level editing and re-narration let teams revise selected sections, while controls for pacing, padding, dialogue, and emotional direction provide more control over delivery. Spoken also supports chapter-organized MP3 downloads and audio mastering for distribution. The production API extends the workflow to publishers and audiobook services handling catalog-scale production. Distribution integrations include YouTube, Spotify, Google Play, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, TuneIn, OverDrive, Everand, BookFunnel, Voices by InAudio, Author's Republic, and Curios.

Pricing is usage-based or subscription-based. Pay Per Project costs $20 per 5,000 finished words and includes unlimited voices per project, voice swapping and re-narration, and publishing-ready downloads. The Monthly Spoken Subscription costs $50 per month, includes a 50% discount on narration, provides unlimited voices, and adds personal voice clone creation. There is no free plan, so Spoken is better suited to authors and publishers with a defined production budget. Teams seeking chapter-aware, full-cast output and distribution-ready files should consider it; buyers needing only a free or basic narration tool should look elsewhere.
