Our verdict on Sonira Sound
Sonira Sound is an iPad app for reading and practicing sheet music, aimed at pianists who want scores to respond to their playing. It imports MusicXML, MXL and MIDI files as notation, and also reads PDFs and score photographs. Piano tracking works through the iPad microphone or a USB or Bluetooth MIDI connection, so the app accommodates acoustic and digital piano practice. Its scope is practice and score reading rather than a broad, cross-platform music library.
The playing-aware tools are the central distinction. Sonira Sound can automatically scroll through a score, turn pages automatically, or leave page changes to the user. Study mode waits for correctly played notes, while score playback, a metronome, included piano exercises and setlist creation support practice sessions. Setlists can be reordered. Printed-score conversion to notation is available in beta, making it useful for users with paper scores or score images, though that feature is not presented as a finished capability.
The app includes free features and public-domain piano editions, with in-app purchases for unlimited personal-score imports and PDF or image conversion credits. The listed paid options include 10, 30 or 80 conversions; no recurring monthly paid price is specified here, so buyers should compare the purchase options in the App Store before relying on a particular import or conversion allowance. Sonira Sound fits iPad pianists who value score following and practice controls, especially those bringing their own notation. It is a weaker fit for musicians seeking an Android app or a platform-independent library.
